Safety First
The Kelly Day is coast guard and DNR inspected licensed fishing vessel. Additionally, the Kelly Day is equipped with adult and child life preservers, first aid supplies, emergency flares, lights, horn and marine radio. Importantly, the captain makes the final call to whether to shove-off or stay docked.
Equipment
The Kelly Day is a trolling vessel which means that special fishing equipment is used. A system of down riggers and spoons, etc. are used to coax the fish onto the hooks. No need to bring your own gear — in fact, you cannot bring any gear aboard as it would likely impede the trolling gear.
What to Bring
Two things are a must - a fishing license (purchased online or at the store); and a cooler to stow your catch! link to online license and store? DNR website. You are also encouraged to bring snacks and beverages, but keep in mind that what you bring onto the boat must leave with you. Litter in the lake will not be tolerated. Note: pets are absolutely not allowed - this is for the safety of the animal.
What to Wear
Dress for the weather. Remember that layers and protection are your friends. If it’s a sunny summer day, be sure to slather on the sunblock and bring a hat and sunglasses. If the clouds are out, then warmer layers would prevail. Deck shoes are highly recommended, but sneakers and other rubber-soled shoes are okay.
Cleanliness is Key
Captain Bob meticulously maintains the Kelly Day inside and out. The boat boasts a spacious deck, cabin and facilities. The cabin is terrific when you need a break from the elements or just want a comfortable place to relax. Additionally, the Kelly Day is equipped with a head (marine toilet), because sometimes nature calls. Cleanliness is important off the boat, too. The Great Lakes are a precious resource, all Kelly Day charters are expected to treat them as such.
